Roland School’s Traverse Climbing Wall

May 13, 2019

Physical literacy as defined by Sport For Life Canada is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life. Roland School is proud to be leading the charge in providing an educational setting where school goals focus on literacy, numeracy and physical literacy.
As a next step to the physical literacy initiative at Roland School following their sensory path that made and continues to make headlines worldwide, a climbing wall has been installed thanks to several contributing community organizations including the Carman and Area Foundation, Refined Health, and Roland School Parent Advisory Council! Roland School has installed a 20’x10’ traverse climbing wall in its gym, designed to encourage students to get moving to new heights!
The traverse climbing wall is the simplest variety of climbing walls that can be installed in schools. This is a great option to challenge students to climb horizontally instead of vertical and complements the development of a variety of gross motor skills and the improvement of overall physical literacy.
